Gibson’s First Career Goal Powers Rocky Women’s Soccer Past Eastern Oregon, 1-0

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Rocky Women's Soccer earned its third consecutive victory and third straight shutout with a 1-0 win over Eastern Oregon on Friday evening.

After missing last weekend's road trip, sophomore defender Ava Gibson returned to the lineup and scored her first career goal in the first half to power the Battlin' Bears to the road victory.

How it Happened
The Battlin' Bears recorded the match's lone goal in the 20th minute. Reese Jeffers initiated the sequence with a corner kick, finding Gracie Clarkson, who redirected the ball toward Ava Gibson. Gibson slipped a low shot past both the EOU goalkeeper and a line-protecting defender, delivering all the offense Rocky needed behind another stout defensive performance.

Although the Mountaineers outshot Rocky 7-5 in the second half, goalkeeper Matea Vernon turned away all four shots on goal she faced in the period to preserve the clean sheet and secure the win.

Notable Statistics
Eastern Oregon outshot Rocky 14-9 overall, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Reese Jeffers and Mia Daskalovska led the Battlin' Bears with two shot attempts each. Vernon was stellar in goal for Rocky, tying a season-high with six saves to log her fifth shutout of the season.

Mountaineer midfielder Gracie Rainsberry came off the bench to record a game-high four shots to lead Eastern Oregon.
