Short-Handed Rocky Women’s Basketball Sees Their Season Conclude in the NAIA WBB National Championship Second Round

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa.- The Battlin' Bears fell to the two-time defending National Champions in Iowa on Saturday afternoon, concluding their 2025-26 season with an overall record of 21-10.

Despite losing a pair of senior starters to injury early in the regular season, the Rocky women compiled another 20+ win season, their fourth in the past five seasons and the seventh overall under Head Coach Wes Keller

How It Happened

Four different Battlin' Bears made their way into the scoring column early, as Isabelle Heggem dropped in a layup to tie the contest at 8-8 with six minutes to play in the first quarter. Dordt's uptempo offense proved to be challenging early, as an 11-4 response following Heggem's basket would give the Defenders a lead they would only build on for the remainder of the contest, as a three-pointer for Dordt before the end of the first quarter gave the host school a double-digit lead they would never allow to get back to single digits. 23 Battlin' Bear turnovers turned into 32 points off turnovers for the Defenders, ending Rocky's season in the NAIA National Championship Second Round.

Notable Statistics

Without the services of leading scorer Paige Wasson, forward Isabelle Heggem led the charge offensively with a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double, while also swatting three blocks. Gabriella Biittner and Brenna Linse each added nine points apiece.

Rocky shot 37.0% from the field and 50% from three. The Battlin' Bears were narrowly outrebounded 37 to 35.

Dordt was led by 26 points and eight rebounds from Gracie Schoonhoven.
