Metcalf’s Top-Three Finish Leads Rocky Women’s to Third Place Finish; Men Finish Tied for Sixth at the RMC Intercollegiate at Lake Las Vegas

HENDERSON, Nev.- Grace Metcalf tied for third place overall and Kirsten Smith finished ninth, while Kristjan Burkelca tied for eighth place to lead the Battlin' Bears in their first spring competition at Reflection Bay Golf Club. 

Women's Results

Grace Metcalf led the charge for Rocky in Nevada, putting together a consistent 15-over-par 231 (76, 77, 78) to tie for third overall. Metcalf totaled the third-best scoring average on par 3s and the second-best scoring average on par 5s, shooting even-par during the tournament. Kirsten Smith also recorded a top-ten effort, shooting 24-over-par 240 (78, 83, 79). Smith and Metcalf tied for the sixth-best par 4 scoring, averaging 4.37 strokes per par 4. 

Tyla Potgieter tied for 21st overall with a score of 39-over-par 255 (85, 84, 86), Alivia Webinger followed three strokes later in 23rd overall with a score of 42-over-par 258 (85, 81, 92), and Catalina Garcia tied for 25th overall with a score of 45-over-par 261 (84, 87, 90). 

Carlee Verdugo (89, 85, 91) and AnaJulia Silva (92, 79, 94) rounded out the Battlin' Bear competitors. 

The 13th-ranked Battlin' Bears finished third overall with a team score of 117-over-par 981 (323, 325, 333). UBC Okanagan earned a team title with an overall score of 71-over-par 935, while No. 2-ranked British Columbia finished runner-up. 

Men's Results

After starting the tournament six-over-par in round one, Kristjan Burkelca finished strong, turning in a pair of one-under-par 71 rounds to finish three-over-par 219, tying for eighth overall. Burkelca tied for the fourth-best par 5 scoring average (-3 overall), and tied for the sixth-best par 4 scoring average (4.13). 

Nathan Piers tied for 14th overall with a trio of two-over-par 74 rounds, finishing six-over-par 222. Sam Norman recorded one of the top rounds of the tournament, shooting three-under-par 69 in round two, finishing eight-over-par 224 (76, 69, 79) to tie for 19th overall. Piers and Norman were two of just six competitors to record an eagle at the tournament. 

Aidan McDonagh finished 31st overall with a score of 14-over-par 230 (81, 73, 76), Adam Hyde-Lay tied for 34th overall with a score of 17-over-par 233 (74, 79, 80), and Tye Boone finished 43rd overall with a score of 33-over-par 249 (86, 79, 84) to round out the Battlin' Bear competitors. 

The 16th-ranked Rocky men finished tied for 6th overall with Southern Oregon, totaling a team score of 42-over-par 906 (308, 292, 306). UBC Okanagan earned the team title with a total score of nine-over-par 873.

The Battlin' Bears continue their spring schedule, as the men compete in The Battle at Laughlin Ranch GC in Nevada on March 23rd and the women compete in the Roadrunner Spring Invite at Nob North GC in Georgia on March 30th.
