WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Sophomore Sam Norman wrapped up the opening day tied for sixth place individually, while freshman Natasza Klimko cracked the top 20 to lead Rocky Golf on day one of the season at PGA National.
No. 18 Men's Golf Ends Day One in Tenth Place
Following a solid opening round, the No. 18 Battlin' Bear men's squad ended the first day in tenth place overall.
Sam Norman spearheaded the effort with a strong start to his sophomore campaign, carding a three-over-par 145 (72, 73) to sit tied for sixth. Norman's 25 total pars tied for the second-most in the field through the first two rounds. Kristjan Burkelca (74, 79) and Braxton McDonald (75, 78) shared 41st place at 11-over-par 153, while Spencer Gill rounded out Rocky's scoring line at 12-over-par 154 (76, 78). Cody Grounds completed the lineup, tying for 65th with a 17-over-par 159 (77, 82).
The Battlin' Bears recorded a 37-over-par team total of 605 (297, 308). Rocky capitalized heavily on par-5 holes, tying for the fourth-best scoring average in the field at 4-under-par.
The elite field features several top-ranked programs alongside Rocky, including No. 1 Keiser University (1st), No. 11 Marian University (2nd), No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan (3rd), No. 7 OUAZ (4th), and No. 12 Wayland Baptist (7th).
No. 25 Women's Golf Ties for 10th Overall After Two Rounds
Rocky Women's Golf delivered a steady performance across 36 holes, ending day one tied for 10th place at PGA National.
Freshman Natasza Klimko impressed in her collegiate debut, pacing the Battlin' Bears with a nine-over-par 153 (77, 76) to claim a spot in the top 20, tied for 18th overall. Klimko excelled on par-3 holes, ranking in the top ten at just 1-over-par. Junior Kirsten Smith followed in a tie for 37th with a 14-over-par 158 (81, 77). Two more freshmen made their collegiate debuts on Monday, as Anna Lende finished tied for 62nd at 21-over-par 165 (81, 84), while Maggie Urian rounded out the team scorers tied for 66th with a 22-over-par 166 (81, 85). Catalina Garcia finished tied for 75th overall with a 26-over-par 170.
Rocky posted identical 320s to complete day one with a 64-over-par team score of 640 (320, 320). Ranked competition in the women's division includes No. 2 Keiser University (1st), No. 5 Marian University (2nd), No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan (3rd), No. 21 OUAZ (4th), and No. 18 Loyola (T-10th).
