(RV) Rocky Men’s Soccer Ends Road Trip With a 1-1 Draw Against Mount Mercy

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- Rocky Men's Soccer rounded out their first road trip of the season with a 1-1 draw against Mount Mercy on Tuesday evening.  

The first half was fairly even, with both teams matching each other with three shots apiece. The Battlin' Bears broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Paul Katende slipped a pass to Fynn Sweeting, who flashed through the box and buried a close-range finish to carry a 1-0 advantage into the break.

Rocky dictated tempo in the second half, dominating the attack and outshooting the Mustangs 12-2 over the final 45 minutes. Despite the sustained pressure, Mount Mercy capitalized on its lone shot on frame of the period. Pablo Lopez uncorked a long-range strike that caught the Battlin' Bears out of position, netting the equalizer to force the 1-1 final score.

Overall, Rocky controlled the stat sheet, holding a commanding 15-5 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 edge in shots on target. Four different Battlin' Bears registered three shot attempts on the night, with Sweeting leading the squad with two shots on frame.

Rocky (1-0-2) returns home for an extended two-week break before embarking on a South Dakota road trip to face South Dakota Mines and Dakota Wesleyan to round out their non-conference schedule.
