DETROIT LAKES, Minn.- Freshman Natasza Klimko holds a three-stroke individual lead, while the Rocky Men placed four golfers inside the top six as both teams seized day-one leads at the Comet Invitational.

Four Battlin' Bears ended the day inside the top six overall, led by a strong performance from senior Kristjan Burkelca. Burkelca finished his afternoon at 7-under-par 137 (68, 69) to sit second individually, largely avoiding mistakes with a field-low two bogeys across two rounds. Braxton McDonald followed closely behind to tie for third overall, shooting 3-under-par 141 (71, 70) while highlighting his day with a pair of eagles. Freshman Spencer Gill fired the field's second-best opening round, ended the afternoon fifth overall at even-par 144 (69, 75). Gill and McDonald showcased consistency across the first two rounds, tying for the field lead with 26 pars apiece. Sam Norman birdied his final three holes to cap his opening two rounds at 1-over-par 145 (74, 71), placing him tied for sixth.

Nathan Piers (10-over-par 154; 18th) and Alexander Brester (17-over-par 161; T-27th) rounded out Rocky's competitors on day one.

The Battlin' Bear men finished the afternoon at 9-under-par 567 (282, 285), holding a nine-stroke lead over Bellevue entering Tuesday's final round.

Freshman Natasza Klimko continued a strong collegiate debut season, firing a 2-under-par 70 in the opening round to lead the field by three strokes. Her six first-round birdies doubled any other player in the field, while also posting the tournament's best scoring averages on par 3s (-1) and par 5s (-3). Fellow freshman Anna Lende finished the opening round in the top 10, tying for sixth with a 7-over-par 79, while Catalina Garcia followed in a tie for eighth overall with a 9-over-par 81.

Kirsten Smith ended the day tied for 10th (10-over-par 82), Carlee Verdugo tied for 13th (12-over-par 84), and Magie Urian rounded out the lineup tied for 21st (18-over-par 90).

Rocky Women's Golf holds a six-stroke lead over second-place Bellevue after posting a 24-over-par 312 team total.
