Rocky Football Falls in Home Opener to Carroll College

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky Football concluded non-division play with a 45-13 defeat against Carroll College.

After a standout rushing performance a week ago against Montana Western, Rocky's offense was held in check as the team looks ahead to Frontier Conference East Division play, which begins next week at home against Valley City State.

How it Happened
Carroll College opened the game with a kickoff return to midfield, but Rocky's defense held the Fighting Saints to a field goal. A Rocky three-and-out on its opening offensive possession was followed by Carroll's first touchdown drive of the afternoon, capped by a five-yard rushing score from Peter Minnaert.

After the teams traded punts into the second quarter, Carroll struck again with a 25-yard passing touchdown to extend its lead to 17-0 with 5:36 remaining in the first half. Ty Battle gave the Battlin' Bears an immediate spark, taking the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 17-6 following a fumbled snap on the PAT attempt. Carroll responded with another touchdown drive and capitalized on a Battlin' Bear fumble in the final 30 seconds of the half, scoring its fourth touchdown to send Rocky into halftime trailing 31-6.

Carroll College sustained its momentum in the third quarter with two more touchdown drives. Rocky registered its lone offensive touchdown early in the fourth quarter, as Reid Chauvin paced the Battlin' Bears down the field before Jhett Schwahn punched it into the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line. Carroll ultimately closed out the 45-13 victory in Rocky's home opener.

Notable Statistics
Jhett Schwahn finished the day 12-of-22 passing for 112 yards while being sacked just once. Javonte King recorded three catches for 46 yards, and Gage Goltz hauled in three receptions for 23 yards. On the ground, Reid Chauvin rushed eight times for a team-high 44 yards.

On defense, Sean Tutty led all players with a game-high 10 tackles, while Cohen Groener added nine tackles, including two tackles for loss. Aaron Alvarez recorded his first career sack in the defeat.

Jordan Legg stood out on special teams, punting five times and averaging 50.0 yards per punt, highlighted by a 73-yard boot that pinned the Saints inside their own 10-yard line.

Overall, Carroll College outgained Rocky 534-212 in total offense, holding advantages in rushing (177-100) and passing (357-112).
