Coach Justin Hafner graduated from Mayville State University with a bachelor's degree in university studies. Hafner played wide receiver, kicker, and punter for the Comets.
Coach Hafner began his coaching career as a student assistant at Mayville State University. He then coached a year at Red River High School in North Dakota. He moved back into college coaching with a stint at Independence Community College, where he helped coach the offensive line and tight ends. He then went to Midwestern State University, where he coached runningbacks. Hafner then spent a year as an offensive intern helping with the quarterbacks at the University of Montana.
Coach Hafner has coached three All-Conference players (Tyler Burian, Lazarus Fisher, and Quinton Childs).
