Nys joined the Battlin' Bears before the 2024-25 season as an Assistant Coach and the Head Coach for the JV Men's Basketball program. Nys graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor's Degree in History in 2022. While in Bozeman, Nys was a Student Manager for the Bobcat's Men's Basketball Team under Coach Brian Fish for one season and Danny Sprinkle for three seasons. Nys served as the Head Manager during the 2021-22 season when Montana State won the Big Sky Regular Season and Tournament Championships and earned a trip to March Madness.Â
Following his graduation from Montana State, Nys took an Assistant Coaching job at Dodge City Community College for one season, helping lead the Conquistadors to a KJCCC Championship and a trip to the Elite Eight in the NJCAA National Tournament in 2023. While at Dodge City CC, Nys coached an NJCAA First Team All-American (Jason Edwards)
Most recently, before coming to RMC, Nys was a Graduate Assistant at Doane University, a role in which he served as an Assistant Coach and a Head JV Coach. Nys has also served as a coach for the Montana Rebels AAU program since 2020.Â
Nys returns home in his new role with the Battlin' Bears. He is the son of Mike and Allison Nys and graduated from Laurel High School, where he was an MHSA state champion in basketball for the Locomotives.Â
