Rocky Wins Eighth Straight Behind Two Second Half Goals

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The 10th-ranked Rocky Mountain College men's soccer team overcame a slow start for the second straight day to win 2-1 at Northwest Christian on Saturday evening in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Rocky (12-1, 8-1 CCC) fell behind in the 17th minute when Victor Irechukwu carried into the area and scored to put Northwest Christian (4-6-2, 4-3-2) in front.

Trailing 1-0 for the second straight day, the Battlin' Bears didn't find the equalizer until the 62nd minute. Sam Davidson crossed the ball into the area where Marco Kummerle headed it home to level the score at 1-1.

Following a NCU foul, Kummerle delivered a free kick that found Jace Beck for the game-winner in the 85th minute.

The win is the eighth straight for the Battlin' Bears – the second longest winning streak in team history – and puts them one point behind Southern Oregon in the Cascade race with one less game played.

Rocky took 15 shots in the game and they put six of them on goal. Kummerle led the way with seven of those chances and three on goal.

Northwest Christian put four of their 11 shots on goal and had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Cole Catlin notched his 12th win of the year in goal with three saves.

The Battlin' Bears have four games remaining in the regular season, including two at home next weekend. They host Warner Pacific on Wendy's Field on Friday at 1 p.m.
