HELENA, Mont. – The Rocky Mountain College women's soccer team snapped a six-game winless streak against Carroll College with a 1-0 win on Friday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.
Rocky Mountain (7-2, 3-1 CCC) was able to break though for the game's only goal in the 65th minute when
Mikale Miller converted a penalty kick. The second career goal for the junior is her first since the 2015 season covering a span of 41 games played.
Carroll (5-4-2, 1-2-2 CCC) had applied much of the pressure throughout the game as the home side finished the game with a 15-8 edge in total shot attempts. Rocky only put two of those eight shots on goal and they took just three shots in the second half.
The Battlin' Bears got a huge effort from goalkeeper
Maia Wetzel as the freshman made a career high 11 saves to record her second shutout of the season. The biggest of those stops came in the 86th minute when she made a diving stop to prevent a Carroll header from going in on a corner kick.
Lauryn Gamache led Rocky with five shots, but she wasn't able to put any of those on goal.
Tiara Duford had the team's other shot on goal to go with the goal from Miller.
The win is the first over Carroll by a Rocky team since November 3, 2013. The Battlin' Bears had been 0-3-3 in the six games since that win and been outscored 9-1.
Rocky now heads for Great Falls, Montana where they will play University of Providence on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from Argo Field.
