Gamache Scores Twice to Defeat Argos

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Rocky Mountain College women's soccer team got two goals from Lauryn Gamache to claim a 2-1 win at University of Providence on Saturday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Gamache gave Rocky (8-2, 4-1 CCC) the lead in the 36th minute when her shot from just outside of the penalty area went off the keeper's hand and into the goal.

The lead remained 1-0 until the 60th minute when Providence (4-6, 2-2 CCC) pulled the game level on a corner kick. Madison Quinn deflected a corner played in the area by Sydney Knieriem for the equalizer.

The Battlin' Bears would respond in the 80th minute as Gamache would strike again. The junior placed a free kick into the upper right corner of the goal from 20 yards out for the winner.

This was the fourth multi-goal game of the season for Gamache and she recorded her third game-winner.

Rocky dictated the action through the first half as they outshot the Argos 8-2. The Battlin' Bears would take another eight shots in the second half, but they gave up seven to the home side. Rocky ended the day with nine shots on goal and they took three corners.

Gamache took six of the Rocky shots and she got three of them on frame. Rita Marshall added three shots and two on goal.

Maia Wetzel earned her sixth win of the season in goal by making three saves.

The Battlin' Bears will spend next weekend on the road to complete a span of five straight games away from home. They visit Corban on Friday at 8:30 p.m. MT in Salem, Oregon.
