BILLINGS, Mont. – The Rocky Mountain College volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Alaska Anchorage, 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 15-25 on Friday night in the Fortin Center.
Rocky Mountain (9-5) couldn't match the offensive attack of the NCAA Division II foe from the GNAC. Alaska Anchorage (6-4) finished the night with a 62-46 advantage in kills and they hit .244 while holding Rocky to just .155.
The Battlin' Bears were able to win the first set after getting 13 kills and holding the Seawolves to .104 hitting. That wouldn't hold the rest of the match as UAA saw its hitting percentage rise in each set and they closed out the win with 18 kills and .341 hitting in the fourth set.
Olivia L'Ami led the Rocky offense with 15 kills, but she committed nine errors and finished the match hitting .118.
Hailey Copinga added nine kills and
Tess Hellerud had eight.
Each team recorded seven blocks and Rocky had an 84-77 edge in digs. UAA tallied eight service aces to only one from the home side.
Holland Fergurson led five Rock players in double figures with 24 digs. This is her sixth 20-plus dig performance of the season.
Natalie Hilderman posted a double-double with 37 assists and a career high 19 digs.
Diana Fa'amausili led UAA with 16 kills while Chrisalyn Johnson finished with 15. Keala Kaio-Perez had 32 digs.
Rocky returns to Frontier Conference play on Saturday when they host University of Providence in the Fortin Center at 7 p.m.
