BILLINGS, Mont. – The Rocky Mountain College football team opens a two-game road stretch on Saturday when they face No. 9 Southern Oregon at Raider Stadium. The Battlin' Bears will travel to Ashland, Ore. for a 2 p.m. MT kickoff.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN Billings 910 AM with Kyle Riley (play-by-play) and Bob Rittierodt (analyst) on the call. Rocky Mountain enters the game with a 3-2 overall record and at 3-1 in Frontier Conference action. The Battlin' Bears received 10 points in the NAIA Coaches' Poll that was released on Monday, sitting one spot outside the top 25. Rocky is 1-1 in road games this season and 0-2 against ranked opponents.
The Battlin' Bears will head to Ashland averaging 228.6 rushing yards per game to rank second in the Frontier Conference. That average ranks 11th in the NAIA and they sit seventh in the country with 1,143 total rushing yards. Rocky adds 186.4 passing yards per game and they are third in the Frontier at 415.0 total yards per game.
Defensively, Rocky allows 385.2 total yards per game to place third in this week's Frontier rankings. The opposition is rushing for 138.8 yards per game while throwing for 246.4. Rocky is 37th in the NAIA with eight sacks and 31st in allowing 24.6 points per game.
The Battlin' Bears are second in the Frontier at plus-three in the turnover margin. The team has forced 15 turnovers this season, ranking tied for third in the NAIA in turnovers gained. Rocky had nine interceptions and recovered six fumbles.
Saturday's game will mark the ninth meeting all-time between the Battlin' Bears and Raiders. Southern Oregon leads the series 7-1 and they have won four straight. Rocky is 0-3 all-time in Ashland where the teams haven't played since the 2014 season. Rocky did win at SOU in 2013, but eventually forfeited the game.
