BILLINGS, Mont. – A late push by the Battlin' Bears gave Rocky Mountain College(11-5-1,7-4-1 CCC) a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over Northwest University (8-8-2,7-3-2 CCC).
Rocky's
Sami Heimer found the back of the net first with an assist from
Lauryn Gamache.
Northwest's Katie Michkiosky tied the game off an assist from Whitney Weaver in the 45th minute before scoring again unassisted in the 82nd minute.
The Battlin' Bears suddenly down by one as the game drew to a close were saved by Gamache who scored by herself in the 87th minute.
Two minutes into overtime,
Mhari Smith knocked a pass from Gamache straight into the net to complete the comeback.
Northwest University had a 22-11 shot advantage over the Battlin' Bears.
Rocky's goalkeeper,
Maia Wetzel, secured 12 saves with two goals allowed. Northwest's Kat Sanchez allowed three goals on five saves.
The match marked the end of the 2018 regular season for Rocky. The Battlin' Bears will next play in the 2018 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Championships. The tournament will be hosted by Northwest Christian University at the Willamalane Sports Complex in Springfield, Ore.
Rocky, in the seventh seed, will take on No. 2 seeded Carroll College on Nov. 7 at 11 a.m.
