BILLINGS, Mont. – Rocky Mountain College's women's golf team maintained possession of the Leslie Spalding Cup Sunday afternoon after defeating crosstown rival MSU-Billings in the annual match play event. Rocky's men's golf team was unable to top the Yellowjackets who reclaimed the Mike Grob Cup.
Both competitions counted as exhibitions for the Battlin' Bears.
Rocky's women recorded a 8.5 to 3.5 victory over the Yellowjackets.
Up 2-1 after the first match, Rocky's
Claire Wright and
Kaelyn Volk defeated Renae Heisler and Sydney Rochford 6-and-4 during the best ball competition.
Morgan O'Neil and
Emily Aga earned a 4-and-3 victory over Avery Gill and Jalen Wagner.
Hailey Derrickson and
Kaitlyn Fleming were defeated 2-and-1 by the pair of Kinsey Irvin and Tierney Messmer.
Up 4-2 before the third match on Sunday, Rocky caught fire in the single matches. The Battlin' Bears recorded four winning cards in addition to earning a half point from Wright's tie with Heisler .

The men's team lost possession of the Mike Grob Cup after falling in a 12.5 to 7.5 loss. MSU-Billings defeated Rocky 3.5 to 1.5 in alternate shot, 3 to 2 in best ball, and 6 to 4 in singles matches.
Going 3-0,
Daniel Sigurjonsson was undefeated through the weekend.
Mitchell Thiessen went 2-0-1 while
Haydn Driver went 2-1.
The Battlin' Bears will wait until the spring season before resuming play.
