GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Despite a late surge, by Rocky Mountain College was defeated 83-71 by No. 9 ranked University of Providence on Thursday night.
Down by as much as 26 points in the second period, the Battlin' Bears trailed from tip to buzzer despite catching fire late. Generating momentum, Rocky held the Argos to just two points in the final five minutes while drawing the game within 12.
The Battlin' Bears were led by
Clayton Ladine's 20-point performance. The senior from San Francisco, Calif., also recorded eight rebounds and five assists.
Brandon The Boy had 14 points while
Kalvin Bowen posted Rocky's other double digit effort with 12 points.
The Argos were led by Dawson Fowler's 15 points and Zaccheus Darko-Kelly's team-high 11 rebounds. Joel Thabize had 14 points while Jacob Wetzel scored 11.
Rocky finished the night shooting 30.1 percent from the field while hitting 29.5 percent from deep. Providence shot a 48.3 field goal percentage and landed 40.6 percent of their 3-point shots.
The Argos outrebounded the Battlin' Bears 43-37, but had 19 turnovers to Rocky's 11.
Rocky Mountain College will next play on Saturday against No. 17 ranked MSU-Northern in Havre, Mont.
