Rocky Mountain College Survives Double Overtime Thriller

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Tying the game in the second period, Rocky Mountain College won 2-1 in double overtime against the University of Jamestown Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown burst into the game on all cylinders as the Jimmies' Kristin Breaux found the back of the net just a minute into the game off an assist from Gabriella Diarte. Down by a goal early, the Battlin' Bears found little offensive production in the first half. Through the first period, both teams each had only three shots.

Coming out of the half, Rocky's offense blitzed the Jimmies with a 9-2 shot advantage in the second period. In the 55th minute, Jamestown's Deisy Rodriguez made a diving save and knocked away a shot from Lauryn Gamache only to have Alyssa Schneider immediately race in for the game-tying score.

The game went into extra time with neither team finding the back of the net in the first overtime period.

In the second overtime period, a handball by Jamestown led to a penalty kick by Gamache. The senior took advantage of the opportunity to score Rocky's game-winning goal in the 109th minute.

The Battlin' Bears finished the game with a 17-9 shot advantage and 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Rocky's goalkeeper Maia Wetzel had three saves with one goal allowed. Rodriguez finished with eight saves and two goals allowed for the Jimmies.

The Battlin' Bears will next host University of Providence on September 14 at 6 p.m.
