Rocky Volleyball Crowned Frontier Conference Tournament Champions After Defeating Montana Western in Four Sets

BUTTE, Mont. Nov. 12, 2022- Rocky Volleyball defeats Montana Western in four sets (23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-13) to take home the Frontier Conference Tournament Championship.

The first two sets went back and forth with a great deal of intensity and determination from both sides. Western took the first set 25-23, then the Battlin' Bears took the second set by the same score, 25-23. 

From then on, it was all Battlin' Bears, taking the third and fourth sets in dominating fashion. Western never held a lead after the first set. 

Montana Western was led by Jazi Smith with 10 kills, Kaylee Fritz with 39 assists, and Kelsey Goddard with 26 digs. 

The Battlin' Bears got help from everywhere on their roster in the victory. Bella Bryan and Makenna Bushman each had 13 kills, Taylor Wolf had 10 kills and five blocks, Kyra Oakland had nine kills and six blocks, Madeline Gilder had three service aces, Blythe Sealey had 49 assists, and Ayla Embry had 34 digs. 

"I'm really proud of how this team came together and how they played this weekend." Coach Yang Yang said. "We knew we needed to play our best and we knew that we needed to win this weekend to advance to the National Tournament. We will have really tough competition to play from here on out and will need to get ourselves ready to go for next weekend"

Winning the Frontier Conference Tournament grants the Battlin' Bears an automatic qualification for the NAIA National Volleyball Championship. Rocky will await to see their seeding during the NAIA Women's Volleyball Selection Show, airing Monday, November 14th at 9:00 am.
