Six Rocky Football Student-Athletes Named All-Frontier Conference

Six Rocky Football Student-Athletes Named All-Frontier Conference

WHITEFISH, Mont., Nov. 21, 2022- The Frontier Conference announced its 2022 All-Conference Football Teams, in which six Battlin' Bears were recognized. The teams are chosen in voting by the league's coaches.

Andrew Simon, a graduate tight end from Whitehall, Montana, was named First Team All-Conference Offense. Simon was the Battlin' Bears leader in receptions, with 37 on the season, totaling 351 receiving yards. Simon was a member of the 2021 All-Conference Second Team.

Wes Moeai, a senior defensive lineman from St. George, Utah, was named First Team All-Conference Defense. Moeai racked in 52 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass break up this season. Moeai was a member of the 2021 All-Conference Second Team. 

Nolan McCafferty, a senior linebacker and team captain from Sheridan, Wyoming, was named First Team All-Conference Defense. McCafferty led the Battlin' Bears defense with 68 total tackles and nine tackles for loss. McCafferty also tallied three pass break ups, had a sack, and recovered a fumble. McCafferty was a member of the 2021 All-Conference Second Team. 

Kaysan Barnett, a sophomore defensive back and punt returner from Phoenix, Arizona, was named First Team All-Conference Defense, as well as Second Team All-Conference Special Teams. Barnett tied for the most interceptions in the Frontier Conference with five, along with nine pass breakups and 38 total tackles on the season. Barnett as a punt returner tallied 13 returns for 172 yards and returned a punt for a touchdown this season while averaging 13.23 yards per return. This is Barnett's first All-Conference selection of his career. 

Stason Makaila, a senior offensive lineman and team captain from Chandler, Arizona, was named Second Team All-Conference Offense. Makaila anchored an offensive line that led the Battlin' Bears to average 154.7 rushing yards per game and only allowed 14 sacks. This is Makaila's first All-Conference selection of his career.

Wyatt Brusven, a junior defensive back, punter, and kickoff specialist from Shelby, Montana, was named Second Team All-Conference Special Teams. Brusven tallied 47 punts for 1925 total yards, averaging 40.96 yards per punt, pinning 18 punts inside the 20 yard line and kicking seven punts over 50 yards. Brusven also averaged 57.3 yards per kickoff, tallying 14 touchbacks on the season. This is Brusven's first All-Conference selection of his career. 

Hunter Jackson, a senior offensive lineman from Bend, Oregon, was Rocky Football's nomination for the Champions of Character award. The Champions of Character award is given to a student athlete who best exemplifies the NAIA's core values, integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.


Carroll College's Troy Purcell was selected as Coach of the Year, while Carroll's Garrett Kocab was named Defensive Player of the Year. Montana Western's Jon Jund repeated as the Offensive Player of the Year and was the conference's nominee for NAIA Player of the Year.
