Rocky Football Defeats MSU-Northern 9-0 in Havre

HAVRE, Mont., Nov. 5, 2022- Battlin' Bears football bounces back from two straight losses by defeating the Skylights 9-0 on a freezing day in Havre.

Offense came at a premium on a day that featured high wind gusts, rain, and sprinkles of snow. Both teams traded possessions throughout the first half, featuring only three total completed passes in the first half, tied 0-0 at the break.

The Battlin' Bears dominated time of possession in the second half, beginning with a 16-play, 7:55 second drive that led to a 24 yard Austin Drake field goal to put the Battlin' Bears up 3-0 in the third quarter. The Battlin' Bears would put together an 11 play, 6:31 midway through the fourth quarter, capitalized by a 1 yard Cade Lambert rushing touchdown, giving Rocky a 9-0 lead after a missed extra point attempt. 

The Battlin' Bears ended with 191 rushing yards total, led by 86 total yards on the ground by Zaire Wilcox, 55 yards by Matt White, and 29 yards by Ben Rooney. Trent Nobach's first start for the Battlin' Bears resulted in only three completions for 36 yards total in a difficult environment for the passing game. The Battlin' Bears defense held Northern to only 49 yards rushing on 30 attempts, with only 14 passing yards on three completions. Wes Moeai totaled six tackles, including a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss to lead the Battlin' Bears. Kaysan Barnett and Brail Lipford each grabbed interceptions in the win. 

Mason Dionne led the Skylight's offense with 28 yards rushing, while Dylan Wampler tallied 13 tackles and Hunter Riley totaled 12 tackles and grabbed an interception. 

The Battlin' Bears (6-3) will host Montana Western next Saturday on Senior Day, presented by Billings Hotel and Convention Center.
