Rocky Men’s Basketball Falls to Menlo College 72-63

CHANDLER, Ariz. Dec. 17, 2022- For the second straight game, the Battlin' Bears outscored their opponent in the second half, but were unable to dig themselves out of the hole, falling to Menlo College 72-63 Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Battlin' Bears, their first half was eerily similar to their first half against OUAZ on Friday, as they finished the first half only scoring 22 points on 28.6% shooting (8-26) and 11.1% from three point range (1-11). Rocky's poor shooting found them in an 16 point deficit at halftime, trailing 38-22.

The Battlin' Bears came out of the locker room ready to play in the second half however, starting the half on a 23-8 run through the first eight minutes of the second half, as a Nick Hart steal and layup cut the score to 46-45. Menlo responded with back to back possessions with an offensive rebound and a second chance bucket, giving them a seven point lead, a lead which Menlo would hold onto through the finish.

"Our guys have just not been able to find a rhythm offensively in the first half of the last two games." Coach Bill Dreikosen said. "I was happy with our defensive effort that held their percentages down, but when you're not making shots, it can be hard to keep everyone playing hard. I was happy with the battle the guys had until the end."

The Battlin' Bears were led by 20 points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals from Maxim Stephens, nine points, seven rebounds and two steals from Kael Robinson, and eight points each from Jesse Owens and Kace Kitchel

The Oaks were led by 15 points and eight rebounds from Landon Seaman and 11 points and two steals from Kareem Rowe.

The Battlin' Bears will get Sunday off in the 2022 Cactus Classic and are back in action on Monday against Hope International.
