Strong Defensive Showing Leads Rocky Women’s Basketball to a 81-39 Victory in the 2022 Cactus Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. Dec. 20, 2022- Rocky Women's Basketball opened the 2022 Cactus Classic with a convincing 81-39 victory over Benedictine University-Mesa.

Defense was the defining factor in the Battlin' Bears victory, holding the Redhawks to only 39 points, including single digit points in the second and fourth quarters. The Battlin' Bears forced 26 turnovers and outrebounded Benedictine-Mesa 38-32. 

The Battlin' Bears were led by five players scoring in double digits, highlighted by 14 points from Mackenzie Dethman. Dethman also grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Iliana Moran finished with 13 points and four assists off the bench, Dominique Stephens scored 12 points, and Tynesha Parnell hit three three pointers off the bench. 

The Redhawks were led by 11 points and seven rebounds from Elise Young, and Raenesha Willis finished with nine points and eight rebounds. 

The Battlin' Bears (7-3) will take on San Diego Christian College Wednesday evening at 6:00pm (MT) in the second of three games in the 2022 Cactus Classic.
