Strong Second Half Leads Rocky Men’s Basketball to a 90-72 Victory Over University of Providence

BILLINGS, Mont. Dec. 3, 2022- A strong second half for Rocky Men's Basketball leads them to a 90-72 victory over University of Providence at home on Saturday afternoon. 

Providence's Sam Vining was the difference maker in the first half, making multiple contested jumpers to get him to 13 points in the first half to lead the Argos to a two point lead at the break.

The Battlin' Bears offense came alive in the second half however, as Rocky scored 55 points in the second half alone to lead them to an 18 point victory.

"I liked our defensive concentration and effort tonight." Coach Bill Driekosen said. "Providence can really score and I thought our guys did a nice job making it tough most of the night. This was a great bounce back win for our team."

Maxim Stephens, in his first start of the year and first game with significant minutes this season, made his presence felt in this game, leading Rocky with 21 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. Nick Hart added a double double, as he tied his career high with 16 points, pulled in 11 rebounds, and swiped two steals. Beau Santistevan also added 12 points and seven rebounds. 

The Battlin' Bears had five players score in double figures on the day, while shooting 54.4% (31-57) from the field and 38.9 % (7-18) from three point range. Rocky dominated the boards as well, out rebounding the Argos 41-24. 

The Argos were led by 21 points and two steals from Eric Milner, while Sam Vining finished with 15 points and five rebounds. 

The Battlin' Bears (6-3, 1-1 conf.) will take on MSUB on Saturday evening in Alterowitz Gym in an exhibition match.
