Rocky Men Fall to Briar Cliff University 0-1

SIOUX CITY, IOWA., Sept. 1, 2022- Rocky Mountain Men traveled to Sioux City, Iowa to take on the Briar Cliff University Chargers Thursday afternoon, in a match in which they were defeated 1-0.

Both teams traded possessions back and forth, until things got a little bit chippy after a hard foul in the 23rd minute by Briar Cliff resulted in both teams coming together, and dual red cards were handed out. Niklas Kneller would then take the penalty shot attempt, but was saved by junior goalie Coy Leytham. Rocky was able to get three shots on goal and held Briar Cliff to no shots on goal in the first half, but the score remained 0-0 going into the second half.

Rocky would continue to push the ball offensively and had opportunities to score, but great efforts by Briar Cliff's Leytham prevented the Battlin' Bears from getting on the board. The draw was broken by Briar Cliff's Bernardo Torres, assisted by Vinicius Gregorio. The Chargers would receive their second red card shortly afterwards, leading to a shot opportunity by Niklas Kneller that was stopped by the Chargers defender Filip Peters.

The Battlin' Bears tallied 16 total shots and 10 of which were on goal, led by Nicklas Kneller's 4 shots and 3 shots on goal. Stefan Schenk started at goalie for the Battlin' Bears and had 3 saves on 4 shots faced in the loss.

The Chargers were led by an outstanding game from goalkeeper Coy Leytham, who saved all 8 of the shots he faced. Briar Cliff only had 7 total shots, with 4 being on goal, but the lone score by Bernando Torres was all the offense the Chargers needed to secure the victory.

Rocky men (0-1) will stay in Sioux City to take on McPherson College on Saturday morning at 9:30 A.M (MT). Follow @BattlinBears on twitter for live match updates.
