Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Brandon Stinson | Sports Information & Media Coordinator

No. 22 Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 15 Montana Western 83-73

The Battlin' Bears women drop back to back conference games for the first time since the 2020-21 season.

BILLINGS, Mont.- No. 22 ranked Rocky Women's Basketball hit 10 threes and shot over 45% from the field, but were unable to overcome the No. 15 ranked Bulldogs, falling 83-73 Saturday afternoon.

The first half was an efficient first half for both offenses, as the Battlin' Bears shot over 50% from the field, while Montana Western's Brynley Fitzgerald exploded with 18 points in the first half alone to give Western a 43-39 lead going into the break.

Ky Buell came out of the gates strong in the second half, hitting two three pointers to bring things to a one point game. Buell's two threes would be the only field goals the Battlin' Bears would knock in for the remainder of the quarter however, as Rocky shot 2-10 from the field in the quarter. Rocky would get to the free throw line 10 times, hitting nine of them to keep the game within seven.

Things would begin to look bleak for the Battlin' Bears, as the Bulldogs would begin the quarter on a 16-4 run in the first four minutes of the quarter. There was no quit in the Battlin' Bears, as they dialed up the pressure, forcing five turnovers in the final five minutes, leading to a 15-4 run. Unfortunately for the host Battlin' Bears, it was too little too late, as the Bulldogs built a big enough lead to withstand the late run, defeating Rocky 83-73.

The Battlin' Bears were led by 20 points, five rebounds, and seven assists from Kloie Thatcher, 11 points from Dominique Stephens, and nine points, five rebounds, and three steals from Ky Buell

The Bulldogs were led by a 30 point, six rebound, four assist, four steal performance from Brynley Fitzgerald. Jordan Sweeney also finished with 18 points and two steals. The Bulldogs never trailed in the game and outscored the Battlin' Bears in each quarter.

The Battlin' Bears (15-7, 7-3 conf.) will be back at home Thursday, February 2nd to host University of Providence in the Fortin Education Center.
