Rocky Football Falls to Southern Oregon 23-5 on Homecoming

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears were held out of the end zone Saturday afternoon as they dropped to 3-3 on the season.

Southern Oregon's Avery McCuiag was a dominant force in the first half, rushing for three touchdowns and 70 yards in the first half as Southern Oregon took a 20-3 lead into the break.

The Battlin' Bears offense had opportunities throughout, but only came away with points on one of their three red zone trips on the day. Penalties hurt Rocky along the way as well, totaling nine penalties on the day for 101 total yards.

Ethan Hurst got to the Raiders in their own endzone at the end of the third quarter, forcing an intentional grounding call that resulted in a safety, cutting the deficit to a two score game at 20-5. Despite the Rocky offense moving the ball down field, they were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Southern Oregon out-gained the Battlin' Bears 418-288 in total offense, behind 280 total rushing yards. Isaiah Hidalgo and Avery McCuaig both rushed for over 140 yards individually and each had rushes of over 40 yards on the day. The Raiders only completed nine passes on the day, but four of them went for over 20 yards.

Luke Holcomb finished 18 of 38 for 188 yards and was sacked four times. Graedyn Buell entered the game at the end of the third quarter, finishing the game seven of 14 for 90 yards and an interception, being sacked once and rushing for 13 yards. Zaire Wilcox rushed 14 times for 21 yards, while also pulling in seven catches for 59 yards. Joseph Dwyer had another stellar game, finishing with nine catches for 129 yards on the day.

Defensively, Kaysan Barnett pulled in two interceptions and tallied three tackles, while Wyatt Brusven grabbed an interception as well along with a fumble recovery and seven total tackles. Jack Cline led the game with nine tackles, including one for a loss, while Prince Johnson tallied seven total tackles, including a strip sack.
