Rocky Volleyball Advances to the Frontier Conference Semifinals After Five Set Victory Over Carroll College

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The third seeded Battlin' Bears avoided the upset as they defeated sixth seeded Carroll College in five sets.

The Battlin' Bears jumped out to an early lead to begin the match in the first set, enough of a lead to withstand a late 7-1 run by Carroll College to take the first set 25-21. Bella Bryan tallied seven early kills.

Carroll College fought back and took the second set in a very even matchup, with the Battlin' Bears tallied two more kills, but had two more attack errors and hit at a slightly worse percentage to give the Fighting Saints the edge to even up the match.

An eye popping .424 hitting percentage in the third set led the Battlin' Bears to a victory, despite both teams putting up impressive runs to keep the score close, it was Rocky that found the victory to go up 2-1.

After both teams traded runs throughout the fourth set, a block from Makenna Bushman and Kaitlyn Wood gave the Battlin' Bears a 21-19 lead. Carroll College was able to capitalize on Rocky mistakes for the remainder of the set however, finishing on a 6-2 run to force a fifth set.

The Battlin' Bears rallied back when they needed to, as they finished the fifth set without a single attack error on their way to a 15-12 match sealing victory.

Bella Bryan led all players with 18 kills (.293). Rhiannon Nez was stellar offensively and defensively, tallying 16 kills and eight blocks in the win. Blythe Sealey set a new career high with 64 assists in the victory, as well as 21 digs. Brooke Ark led the match with 39 digs on the afternoon.

The Battlin' Bears will take on host University of Providence Friday evening, scheduled for 7:00pm (subject to change based on conclusion of prior matches) in the Frontier Conference Tournament semifinals. Winner of this evening's match will take on the winner of (1) Montana Tech/(4) Montana Western on Saturday, November 11th at 2:00pm in the Frontier Conference Championship match.
