Rocky Volleyball Rallies For Three Straight Set Wins to Advance to the Frontier Conference Championship After Five Set Victory Over Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- After consecutive five set victories on Friday, the Battlin' Bears will move on to defend their Frontier Championship in a rematch against Montana Western.

The Argos jumped out to a 2-0 lead, as the Battlin' Bears combined for a total of 13 attack errors and University of Providence hit .231 and .387 in the first and second sets.

With their backs up against the wall, the Battlin' Bears rattled off three consecutive set victories to advance past the Argos with a reverse sweep. Rocky hit .367 as a team in the third set with only three attack errors.

The Battlin' Bears took a commanding 22-15 lead in the fourth set, but the Argos rallied for a 7-0 run to tie the match back up at 22-22. Rhiannon Nez and Bella Bryan both tallied kills as Rocky pulled away for a 25-23 set win to force the match into a fifth set.

Again, Rocky jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the final set, but an Argo run brought the match back to 13-10. Makenna Bushman, the leading attacker on Rocky's unit this season, wrapped it up for the Battlin' Bears with two kills as Rocky advanced to the Frontier Conference Championship.

Bella Bryan led all players with 20 kills, along with six digs. Makenna Bushman added 14 kills on .429 hitting percentage, Rhiannon Nez tallied 13 kills (.478%) and seven blocks, and Blythe Sealey finished with 55 assists and three service aces in the winning effort.

The 2023 Frontier Conference Tournament Championship match will be a repeat of 2022, as the Battlin' Bears will take on the fourth seeded Montana Western Bulldogs. Rocky defeated the Bulldogs a season ago in four sets to earn an automatic birth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
