Rocky Women’s Basketball Defeats Northwest University 78-64

KIRKLAND, Wash.- The Battlin' Bears jumped out to an early lead over Northwest University and never looked back, defeating the Eagles 78-64 Friday evening. 

Dominique Stephens and Morgan Baird combined for 13 points on 6-6 shooting in the first quarter, helping Rocky build a 25-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Battlin' Bears struggled from the field in the second quarter, shooting only 3-14 from the field, but still held an 11 point lead going into the halftime break. 

The Rocky offense got back on track in the third quarter, shooting over 55% from the field with no turnovers to extend their lead heading into the fourth quarter. Iliana Moran helped Rocky seal the victory with seven points in the fourth quarter, as Rocky took care of the ball, turning the ball over only once in the second half and hit 8-10 free throws in the final quarter. 

Four Battlin' Bears scored double figures Friday evening, led by a game high 19 points from Morgan Baird. Iliana Moran tallied 16 points, shooting 9-9 from the free throw line, while also adding four assists. Dominique Stephens added 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks, with Ky Oliver (Buell) finishing with 10 points, five rebounds, and four steals. 

The Rocky women shot 45.6% from the field, 26.3% from three point range, and 67.6% from the free throw line in the winning effort, while forcing 16 Eagle turnovers. 

The Battlin' Bears (4-0) will stay in Kirkland, Washington to play Corban University in the final day of the Northwest Classic.
