Cold Shooting Holds Battlin’ Bears Back; Rocky Falls 69-46 in Rimrock Rivalry Exhibition Matchup

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears dropped their second exhibition matchup this season against the Yellowjackets after an uncharacteristically cold shooting night on Saturday evening.

Neither team got much going on the offensive end in the first quarter, as both sides combined for seven-of-32, as the Yellowjackets carried a narrow 9-7 lead into the second quarter. Ky Oliver got Rocky out in front in the second quarter after hitting four consecutive free throws, granted to her by a pair of technical fouls, to give Rocky a slim lead.

MSU Billings got their rhythm midway through the second quarter, rattling off an 8-0 run to take a seven-point lead into the media timeout. Gracee Lekvold took it upon herself to get Rocky's offense going, as she responded out of the timeout with her own personal 8-0 run to give Rocky the lead right back inside of two minutes to go until halftime. Kola Bad Bear got a basket and a pair of free throws to go as the Battlin' Bears trailed by three going into halftime.

The Yellowjackets would begin to break away in the third quarter, going on an 11-0 run midway through the quarter as the Battlin' Bears struggled to find the bottom of the net. Morgan Baird and Gracee Lekvold would combine to break up the run, but the Yellowjackets' Danielle Zahn hit a jump shot to give MSU Billings a double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The offensive woes continued into the fourth quarter, as the Battlin' Bears shot just four-of-14 from the field in the final period as the Yellowjackets ran away with the lead and took the season series with a double-digit victory.

Gracee Lekvold led the way with 15 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Ky Oliver added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Brenna Linse produced eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Battlin' Bears (7-0) will head to Idaho for another exhibition matchup on Tuesday, December 12th, as they take on Boise State.
