Rocky Women’s Basketball Defeat Skylights 70-61 in the Frontier Conference Tournament Quarterfinals

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears will advance in the Frontier Conference Tournament after defeating MSU-Northern 70-61 in Great Falls on Sunday afternoon.

The first quarter belonged to Dominique Stephens, as she scored 11 of Rocky's first 15 points. Morgan Baird finished the final two minutes of the quarter with six points of her own to give Rocky a 21-13 lead after one. 

The Battlin' Bears struggled from deep in the first half, shooting only 2-10 from three point range in the first half. The Rocky women found offensive rhythm nonetheless, as Dominique Stephens finished the half with 13 points, while Morgan Baird tallied 10 first half points as the Battlin' Bears dominated inside. 

Both teams came out of the half firing, as they each traded baskets throughout the quarter in which the two teams combined for 45 points. Back to back three pointers by Gracee Lekvold and Kloie Thatcher extended Rocky's lead to 15 headed into the final quarter. 

The Rocky women were able to close the door on the Skylights in the fourth quarter to move onto the semifinals in the Frontier Conference Tournament. 

The Battlin' Bears were led by three post players in double figures, as Dominique Stephens scored 17 points and four rebounds, Morgan Baird finished with 14 points and four rebounds, and Mackenzie Dethman tallied 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The Battlin' Bears shot 44.8 % from the field (26-58), while only shooting 22.7 % (5-22)  from three point range. 

The Skylights were led by 18 points and four rebounds by Ryley Kehr, while Briaunna McCullough tallied 12 points, three rebounds, and four steals. 

The Battlin' Bears will take on No. 15-ranked Montana Western at 1:00pm (MT) in the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls.
