Rocky Volleyball Drops Both Matches Friday in Big Sky Challenge

HELENA, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears didn't get the outcomes they had hoped for to open the 2023 campaign, as they fell to Bushnell in five sets 3-2 (35-33, 25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 9-15) in the morning and to Mount Vernon Nazarene in four sets 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 22-25, 13-25) Friday afternoon.

The day began with fireworks for the Battlin' Bears, as their first set extended all the way to a 35-33 finish to give the Battlin' Bears an early lead. Momentum continued into the second set, as the Battlin' Bears went on a five point streak to break away from the Beacons in a back and forth set to win the second set 25-20. Momentum came to a crashing halt unfortunately for the Rocky women, as Bushnell rattled off three consecutive set wins to take the victory in five sets.

The Battlin' Bears found another good start in their afternoon matchup, as five kills from Makenna Bushman in the first set got Rocky off to a 1-0 lead after a 25-22 first set victory. Unfortunately, the Battlin' Bears were never able to establish a rhythm from then on, as Mount Vernon Nazarene took command of the match and went on to win in four sets.

Bella Bryan led the way in the second match with 11 kills, freshman Kaitlyn Wood finished with nine kills and three solo blocks, and Grace Zeier totaled 20 digs on the afternoon.

The Cougars were led by 19 kills and 17 digs from Lyssi Snouffer, while Reagan Nuss finished with 49 assists.

The Battlin' Bears will be back in action on Saturday, as they take on Spring Arbor University at 11:00am and Warner Pacific University at 4:00pm.
