Rocky Volleyball Takes Two Victories Saturday at the Big Sky Challenge

HELENA, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears rebounded well from their losses on Friday, winning both of their matchups on Saturday to conclude the Big Sky Challenge in Helena.

The only set the Battlin' Bears dropped on Saturday came in the first set of the day against Spring Arbor University. The second and third sets were controlled throughout by the Battlin' Bears, as they held a 2-1 lead going into the fourth set. The Rocky women were staring a fifth set down, as Spring Arbor held a 23-18 lead in the fourth set, until the Battlin' Bears caught fire. Rocky finished the fourth set on an 8-1 run, propelled by stellar defense at the net to secure a match victory (21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 26-24).

The first match was led by 14 kills (.278%) by Makenna Bushman, 29 digs from Brooke Ark, and 40 assists and 11 digs from Blythe Sealey

The Cougars were led by 20 kills from Kendall Bollenbacher and 29 digs from Frances Churchwell.

The Battlin' Bears bottled their momentum from the morning match against Spring Arbor and continued it into their afternoon match with Warner Pacific, winning in three sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-22) with contributions from new faces on the 2023 squad. Sophomore Paige Sawyer (Redshirt in 2022) stepped up in a big way, moving from her right side position to setter to put together an impressive stat line of 23 assists, nine kills, and five digs in the three set victory. Freshmen Kaitlin Wood and Ella Kincaid also made large impacts in the victory, as Wood finished an impressive opening weekend of her Rocky career with 10 kills, as Kincaid racked in 19 assists, 10 digs, and three total blocks.

The Knights were led by 13 kills from Elizabeth Reid, while Kyla Reiling finished with 22 assists.

The Battlin' Bears will travel to Fullerton, California next weekend to participate in the Hope International Tournament.
