#23 Rocky Volleyball Defeats University of Providence in Five Sets

DILLON, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears pulled off a five set victory over the Argos to kick off the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament on Thursday evening.

The Battlin' Bears were in complete control for the first two sets of the match, winning the first set 25-18, then following up with a 25-15 second set victory. Makenna Bushman led the charge with seven early kills as Rocky was in the driver's seat entering the third set.

The Argos did not bow out however, as even though Rocky held a 19-17 lead in the third set, Providence fired off eight unanswered points to take the third set.

A back and forth set in the fourth set saw Providence take a 23-19 lead, before Rocky answered with four straight points, including two blocks from Makenna Bushman, to tie things up at 23 each. The Argos were able to stop the Rocky momentum however, earning the final two points in the end of the set to force a fifth set after a 25-23 victory.

The fifth set was a tense one, as neither team ever held a lead larger than three. After two straight kills from Providence's Nina Janijic, the Battlin' Bears called a timeout with the set tied at 12. Makenna Bushman and Kaitlyn Wood rallied the Battlin' Bears in the end, as they combined for the final four kills, with Wood putting the cherry on top for a Rocky victory in five sets.

Makenna Bushman led the Battlin' Bears with 17 kills,  three blocks, and four digs, Blythe Sealey finished with 44 assists and 24 digs, and Brooke Ark finished with 37 digs. Bella Bryan and Kaitlyn Wood each added 10 kills of their own as well.

Rocky Volleyball (9-4) will be back in action Friday morning against #11 Montana Tech.
