#23 Rocky Volleyball Falls to #11 Montana Tech in Five Sets

DILLON, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears battled in their second five set match in as many days, but ultimately fell short against #11 Montana Tech Saturday.

Rocky got off to a hot start in Dillon with a first set win 25-21. Bella Bryan had only five attacks in the first set, but turned four of them into kills. While both teams battled to a 15-15 tie in the second set, Montana Tech hit a wave of momentum, finishing the second set on a 10-4 point run to tie things up at 1-1.

Montana Tech jumped to a large lead early in the third set, while Rocky was able to bounce back later in the set, the Orediggers cruised to a 25-17 set three win. Bella Bryan and Rhiannon Nez combined in the fourth set to a 19-9 lead in the fourth set after an 11-1 run. Similarly to Rocky's efforts in the third set, the Orediggers were able to bounce back to make the end of the set competitive, but were unable to dig themselves out of the hole as the teams entered a fifth set.

Tech's Maureen Jessop and Olivia Muir combined for nine kills in the fifth set, as Tech pushed forward to a fifth set and match victory.

The Battlin' Bears were led by 14 kills from Bella Bryan and Rhiannon Nez. Nez finished with a .458 hitting percentage and added six total blocks. Blythe Sealey finished with 47 assists and 17 digs, while Brooke Ark finished with 24 digs.

Tech was led by 27 kills from Maureen Jessop in the winning effort.

Rocky Volleyball (9-5) will finish their play in the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament  on Saturday, where they play Montana Western at 11:00am and MSU-Northern at 4:00pm.
