Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls 86-65 to Montana Western

DILLON, Mont.- The shorthanded Battlin' Bears dropped their fifth straight game on Saturday afternoon, losing 86-65 to Montana Western.

Brenna Linse started the offensive output on Saturday, scoring the first seven points for the Battlin' Bears. Four offensive rebounds for the Bulldogs and six Battlin' Bear turnovers hurt Rocky as they trailed 21-12 late in the first quarter. Gracee Lekvold drew a foul just before time expired in the quarter to cut the deficit to seven going into the second quarter.

Montana Western shot the three very well in the first half to build a lead, hitting five in the second quarter and nine total in the first half. Keke Davis put in a free throw before the half to give the Bulldogs a 13-point lead.

Rocky's offense clicked in the third quarter, shooting 7-11 from the field. Montana Western unfortunately matched their offensive output and maintained a 12-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs would break away early in the fourth quarter, putting together a 12-2 run that would grow their lead as large as 24 as they took the victory.

Brenna Linse led the way for Rocky with a career-high 19 points and six rebounds. Gracee Lekvold added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Ky Oliver and Madeline Heggem each added nine points.

Montana Western had four players in double figures, led by 24 points by Joelnell Momberg, who shot 7-9 from three. Jordan Sweeney and Shainy Mack each added 16 points.

The Battlin' Bears (11-6) will be on the road again to take on #16 University of Providence in Great Falls.
