Rocky Volleyball Uses Team Effort in a Commanding Four-Set Victory Over (RV) Valley City State

BILLINGS, Mont.—Rocky Volleyball capped off the second day of the Frontier Conference / North Star Crossover Tournament with a four-set victory over future conference foe Valley City State.

How it Happened

Valley City State grabbed the first set of the match with an impressive offensive attack. The team compiled 19 kills and a .295 hitting percentage, earning a 25-21 victory.

The Battlin' Bears didn't let the early deficit smother their momentum as Rocky stormed ahead for three consecutive set victories to win the match Friday evening.

Makenna Bushman led the charge in the second set, tallying three service aces amid a 9-1 run to give Rocky a 20-12 lead. Bushman would put the cherry on top of the second-set victory with a kill.

It was Kaitlyn Wood's turn to spark the Battlin' Bears in the third set, as she compiled three kills, a block, and a service error as Rocky grabbed an early lead. While Valley City stormed back to tie the match at 20-20, Blythe Sealey and Gabriella Panzetta combined for two different blocks as Rocky grabbed the next four consecutive points and eventually the set, 25-21.

Finally, Liddia Fontaine would seize the hot hand in the fourth set, totaling four kills to spark an early 6-1 run. Fontaine would total seven kills in the fourth set alone, leading Rocky to 19 total kills and a .233 hitting percentage to cruise to a fourth set and match victory.
