Rocky Volleyball Defeats Mayville State in Four Sets at Home

BILLINGS, Mont.—Rocky Volleyball spiked a season-high 58 kills in a four-set victory over the Comets of Mayville State on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

The Battlin' Bears came out firing in the first set, spiking 16 kills on just 22 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .682, cruising to a 25-11 first-set victory.

Mayville State kept their composure in the second set, jumping out to a 15-12 lead after a kill from Abby Cox. Liddia Fontaine would heat up for Rocky, spiking back-to-back kills to capitalize a 5-0 run for Rocky to take the lead back, 17-15. While the Comets would battle back in the set to tie things at 22-22, Makenna Bushman would spike a kill on the following play before back-to-back attack errors sealed a second set win for Rocky, 25-22.

Mayville State captured a third-set victory, as seven attack errors hindered the Rocky offense to bring the match to a fourth set.

Rocky would remain strong and captured the momentum in front of their home crowd in the fourth set. After Mayville State cut their deficit to 12-10 after a kill from Andrea Majchrazek, the Battlin' Bears would rattle off their match-sealing run, as a kill from Kaitlyn Wood would spark a 10-3 run that featured four kills from Bella Bryan. A pair of attack errors from the Comets would eventually seal a 25-18 set victory and secure the four-set win for Rocky.
