Rocky Volleyball Falls in Three Sets to #13 Providence

BILLINGS, Mont.—The Battlin' Bears could not slow down the high-flying attack of the Argos on Thursday, falling in three sets.

How it Happened

The 13th-ranked University of Providence backed up their national rating and their position at the top of the conference, combining for a team hitting percentage of .302 in their victory over Rocky in the Fortin Education Center.

After Kaitlyn Wood's kill gave Rocky an early 6-5 lead in the first set, the Argos responded with an 8-2 run to grab a five-point lead 13-8. While a service ace from Ella Kincaid brought Rocky back within three, the Argos cruised to a 25-19 first-set victory, led by a combined hitting percentage of .310.

Providence continued their momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 6-2 lead to force a Battlin' Bear timeout. Rocky regrouped following the timeout, as two kills from Kaitlyn Wood brought the score back to 7-6. While both teams would trade points back and forth, another mid-set run would separate Providence, as a 6-1 run would open the Battlin' Bear deficit to six, and the Argos would close out the third set 25-16.

Rocky would be the first to strike in the third set, as three early kills and two blocks from Makenna Bushman would rally the Battlin' Bears to an early 7-4 lead. While the Rocky defense forced six attack errors from the Argos in the final set, it would not be enough as the Battlin' Bears fell at home in three sets.

Makenna Bushman and Kaitlyn Wood each tallied nine kills on the evening, while Bushman added 24 digs. Blythe Sealey added 32 assists in the loss.

Cabry Taylor and Ryann Eddins each tallied 12 kills on the evening for the Argos and Bella Thompson finished with 45 assists.
