Rocky Men’s Soccer Defeats Multnomah 3-0 on Senior Day

BILLINGS, Mont.- Igor Soares tallied an early goal to celebrate his senior day as Rocky grabbed a crucial victory over Multnomah on Sunday afternoon, earning their spot in the Cascade Conference Championship Tournament. 

How it Happened
Following his recognition on Senior Day during the pre-game warmups, Igor Soares was the first to strike on Sunday. After Espoir Mayele dribbled into the corner, he found Soares at the top of the box and Soares fired an impressive curving shot just inside of the post to give Rocky an early 1-0 lead in the 8th minute. 

Multnomah would have an excellent opportunity to match Rocky's early score after the Battlin' Bears were whistled for a handball inside the box, setting up a penalty kick. Multnomah's attempt would sail left of the goal, preserving Rocky's early lead. 

Mayele would take it himself in the 24th minute to give Rocky their second goal of the afternoon, dribbling through a crowd of Lions and sneaking a low shot under the goalkeeper for his fifth goal of the season. 

Henry Chalkley would add an additional goal in the second half. After Igor Soares took a hard foul from roughly 30 yards out, Chalkley would line up a free kick, firing a shot towards the goal that would deflect off the shoulder of a Lions defender and into the net, giving Rocky the 3-0 lead they would hold through the final horn. 

Overall, the Battlin' Bear defense held Multnomah to just five total shots, including only one in the second half. Goalkeeper Stefan Schenk saved all four shots he faced on the afternoon. Rocky ultimately outshot the Lions 14-5 in the winning effort.
