#21 Rocky Women’s Basketball Drops Season Opener to Park-Gilbert 89-78

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky saw solid production from their newcomers, but turnovers haunted the Battlin' Bears as they fell 89-78 at home on Thursday evening.

How it Happened

The Buccanneers created challenges for the Battlin' Bears early, as their constant pressure turned Rocky's mistakes into quick points. The Battlin' Bear women held their advantage on the boards, grabbing six offensive rebounds through the first quarter of play. Park-Gilbert came out firing from deep, hitting eight of their first 12 shots from three-point range.

Sydney Dethman led the charge in the second quarter in her Battlin' Bear debut, scoring 10 points on five-of-six shooting from the field. However, seven Rocky turnovers led to a 30-point quarter for the Buccaneers, who held a 49-41 lead at the half.

Turnovers continued to haunt Rocky going into the second half. The Rocky defense helped pick up the Rocky offense, but the Battlin' Bears still trailed going into the fourth quarter.

A 6-0 run from Sydney Dethman helped spark the Battlin' Bears in the fourth quarter, cutting their deficit to eight. Still, the Buccanneers held the Rocky women to just three points in the final four minutes, securing a victory in the Fortin Education Center.
