Rocky Volleyball Unable to Close Out #20 Orediggers; Fall in Five Sets

BILLINGS, Mont.—After wins in the first two sets, the script was flipped for the Battlin' Bears, who eventually lost in five sets at home on Saturday.

How it Happened

Liddia Fontaine came out firing for the Battlin' Bears, tallying eight kills in the first set, propelling the Battlin' Bears to a 25-21 first-set victory. Rocky hit .237 as a team in the opening set and finished with just four attack errors.

Rocky's momentum continued into the second set. They limited their attacking errors while holding Montana Tech to just .061 hitting, cruising to a second-set victory, 25-18.

The match seemed to flip on its head for Rocky for the remainder of the evening. After a strong start, ten attack errors, and an opposing hitting percentage of .429 turned into a lopsided third set win for Montana Tech, 25-6.

Unfortunately for Rocky, the fourth set was more of the same. They were limited to just six kills on 35 total attacks as the Orediggers cruised to another big set win, 25-14.

While Rocky dug their heels in on the fifth set, as a kill from Kaitlyn Wood brought the match to 5-4, Montana Tech would continue their run and come away with a reverse sweep in the Fortin Education Center following a 15-8 fifth set win.

Liddia Fontaine led the Battlin' Bears with 14 total kills, while Bella Bryan followed with ten. Blythe Sealey totaled 34 assists, and Brooke Ark finished with 27 digs.

Kinnidi Willmore, the Frontier Conference leader in kills per set, finished the night with 16 kills for the Orediggers, while Rhys Layton totaled 50 assists.
