Rocky Men’s Soccer Uses Hot Second Half to Defeat Walla Walla 5-0

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash.- Despite a scoreless first half, the Rocky men totaled a season-high five goals in the final 45 minutes to advance to 3-2 in conference play. 

How it Happened
While there were no goals in the first half, things were going well for the Battlin' Bears. Through the first half, they outshot the Wolves 8-1, six of which were on goal. 

It took just three minutes after the halftime break for Rocky to finally break through, as Igor Soares found Nolan Finch deep in the box after an entry pass from Henry Chalkley for Rocky's opening score. Just three minutes later, Soares took it himself to score the second goal for the Battlin' Bears. 

Igor Soares would get another scoring opportunity thanks to a great pass from Mans Orwen. Soares just tapped in a shot over a diving keeper to extend the Rocky lead to 3-0. 

Kai Gatrell would score next, knocking in his first collegiate goal after a corner kick from Paul Randello. Nolan Finch and Igor Soares would connect again in the closing minutes for the cherry on top, as Finch tallied his second goal of the day and Soares his second assist to conclude a 5-0 Rocky victory. 

Overall, the Battlin' Bears outshot the Wolves 22-2 in the match, putting 14 of their shots on goal on the afternoon. Stefan Schenk tallied his first shutout of the season, saving the only shot he faced on the afternoon.
