Rocky Men’s Basketball Cruises to 88-78 Victory over Benedictine-Mesa

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- Six Battlin' Bears tallied double figures as Rocky Men's Basketball won their first of two games in Great Falls Friday afternoon.

How it Happened

Neither team found much separation through the first few minutes of play, as an offensive rebound and putback by Carter McCoy gave Rocky an 11-9 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

The following 7:57 of action would ultimately be a deciding factor in the contest, as the Battlin' Bears raced ahead for a combined 28-8 run, which featured a stretch of 11-15 shooting from the Rocky men and four forced turnovers, jumping ahead to a 37-17 lead.

The Red Hawks gathered some momentum back to close out the first half, holding Rocky to 4-17 shooting from the field over the final seven minutes to cut their deficit to ten at the halftime break.

Benedictine-Mesa came out hot to open the second half, erasing their deficit that was once twenty points down to two after an 11-3 run. The Battlin' Bear run that would follow would be crucial, as Rocky responded with an 11-0 run to extend their lead to double digits as the game approached the final ten minutes.

The Battlin' Bears did what they needed to do in the final ten minutes of the contest, shooting an efficient 9-11 from the free throw line, while Royce Robinson scored 11 of his 18 points in the final stretch of the game to secure the Battlin' Bear victory in great falls.

Notable Statistics

Jaylon Lee was a force on both sides of the ball for Rocky in their victory, totaling a 20-point, 15-rebound double-double, including seven offensive rebounds.
