Rocky Women’s Basketball Defeats Bushnell 58-49 in Oregon

EUGENE, Ore.- The Battlin' Bears leaned on an excellent defensive effort to grab their fourth consecutive victory in Oregon on Saturday evening.

How it Happened

Neither team could find much offensive momentum throughout the first half. The Battlin' Bears forced five Bushnell turnovers through the first ten minutes of play, and Madeline Heggem beat the first quarter horn with a three-pointer to give Rocky an 11-9 lead.

The defense was the key point for both teams throughout the second quarter. Through five minutes of play, only one combined field goal was scored. Bushnell was able to scrap together some momentum, making three of their final four field goal attempts to take a narrow 19-16 lead into the halftime break.

The offense picked up to open up the second half, as both teams traded baskets through the first three minutes of play, with Isabelle Heggem drilling a three-pointer with seven minutes remaining in the quarter to take the lead back 29-27. Brenna Linse secured back-to-back layups at the end of the quarter as the Battlin' Bears held a 34-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

Rocky would make the run they needed early in the fourth quarter, as the Battlin' Bears would rattle off a 14-3 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Paige Wasson to give Rocky a ten-point lead inside of the final two minutes, propelling them to their fourth consecutive victory.

Notable Statistics
