Rocky Women’s Basketball Drops Rimrock Rivalry Exhibition 65-47

BILLINGS, Mont.- After a hot start, the Rocky women went cold from the field and fell to MSU Billings 65-47 in an exhibition matchup on Wednesday.

How it Happened

The Battlin' Bears had their home crowd fired up behind an excellent start to Wednesday's matchup. Rocky nailed all four of their three-point attempts in the first quarter and forced six Yellowjacket turnovers to storm ahead to a 20-7 lead.

From then on, however, it was all Yellowjackets, as MSU Billings responded with a dominant quarter of their own, hitting seven three-pointers and shooting 75% from the field en route to a 33-point quarter to take the lead going into halftime.

In the second and third quarters, Rocky struggled from the field, combining to shoot just 4-23 overall for just ten points, as the Yellowjackets grew a lead as large as 26.

The Battlin' Bears took advantage of the exhibition matchup, getting ten different players minutes in the fourth quarter. This helped turn their fortune on the evening as they shot over 50% from the field to close the game, but it was not enough as Rocky dropped the first of two matchups with MSU Billings.

Notable Statistics

Sydney Dethman led the Battlin' Bear, scoring with 13 points and grabbed three rebounds. Iliana Moran added four assists and two steals.

Dyauni Boyce finished with a game-high 19 points and six rebounds for the Yellowjackets. Aspen Giese added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Rebounding and free throws favored the Yellowjackets. MSU Billings totaled ten offensive rebounds and 30 total rebounds, compared to Rocky's two and 18, while also making 20 trips to the charity stripe, compared to Rocky's four.
