Dethman’s Dominant Double-Double Leads Rocky Women Over Valley City State 82-61

DICKINSON, N.D.- Sydney Dethman's 27 points and 12 rebounds were both the most by a Battlin' Bear this season, as her double-double led Rocky's second-half charge to topple the Vikings 82-61 in Dickinson.

How it Happened

Sydney Dethman started her afternoon on a high note, scoring or assisting on Rocky's first ten points in the first quarter. While the Battlin' Bears came up empty from behind the arc through the first ten minutes, Rocky tallied 12 of their 18 points in the first quarter in the paint as they held a four-point lead going into the second quarter.

Valley City State got hot in the second quarter to take their first lead, hitting four of five from three-point range over three minutes to extend a lead to seven points. The Rocky women had their response to close out the first half, rattling off a 13-2 run to grab a four-point lead at the half.

The basket seemed to be five feet wide for the Battlin' Bears in the third quarter, as Rocky could not miss coming out of the halftime break. They made all five of their three-point attempts in the quarter en route to a 25-point quarter that extended their lead to as large as 13.

Defense sealed the deal for Rocky in the fourth quarter, holding Valley City State to six points on 16% shooting from the field, forcing five turnovers, and outrebounding the Vikings by seven to secure a victory in Dickinson.
