Rocky Volleyball Falls in Five-Sets at Home to Carroll College

BILLINGS, Mont.—Rocky Volleyball could not fend off a late Carroll College run, falling in five sets on Thursday.

How it Happened

The Battlin' Bears seized early momentum with back-to-back set victories to open up the match. Rocky's defense at the net was excellent, holding the Fighting Saints to hitting percentages of .091 and .125 with 16 combined attack errors.

Things flipped for Rocky going into the third set. Carroll College jumped to a staggering 17-4 lead, riding their new-found momentum to a third-set victory.

The fourth set was back-and-forth, as Bella Bryan spiked a kill late to tie the match at 20-20. Carroll College would score back-to-back points, but a pair of Saints' attack errors gave Rocky life in the set. Ultimately, Lauren Heuiser would seal the match, as her kill gave Carroll a 25-23 set win and a chance in the fourth set.

Neither team put together a significant run throughout the fifth set, keeping the match close. Carroll College had the Battlin' Bears on the ropes following a block from Elizabeth Heusier and Hannah Schweikert to put Rocky on the trailing end of a 14-13 match, but Liddia Fontaine responded with back-to-back kills to set up match point. Ultimately, Carroll would swipe away a victory as Lauren Heiser spiked back-to-back kills and tallied a block for the final point, granting Carroll a reverse sweep and a five-set win on the road.

Four Battlin' Bears spiked double-digit kills in the loss, led by Bella Bryan with 16. Bryan's 15th kill on the evening was the 1,000th of her Battlin' Bear career. Makenna Bushman finished the match with 15 kills, a career-high 42 digs, and three service aces. Blythe Sealey tallied 45 assists and 18 digs, while Brooke Ark set a new career-high mark with 55 digs.

The sister duo of Elizabeth and Lauren Heuiser led the charge for the Saints, as Elizabeth finished with 19 kills and five blocks, and Lauren totaled 18 kills and six blocks.
