(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Stifles Wolfpack in 67-38 Cactus Classic Victory

CHANDLER, Ariz.- The Battlin' Bears held (RV) Loyola to 24.6% shooting from the field and forced 19 turnovers en route to their largest margin of victory of the season on Wednesday evening.

The Rocky women's commanding victory was a highlight of the early season, taking down a Loyola team that has spent time this season in the top 25 and advanced to the Round of 16 in the NAIA Tournament in the 2023-24 season.

The 29-point victory was the largest of the 2024-25 season, never allowing the Wolfpack more than 13 points in a quarter on Wednesday. The Battlin' Bears have been excellent on the road this season, combining for a record of 7-0 in away or neutral site games during their non-conference schedule

How it Happened

Paige Wasson gave Rocky a lead on the opening offensive possession for Rocky, drilling a three-pointer. After a brief offensive lul, the Battlin' Bears put together an 11-3 run in which they held the Wolfpack to 1-9 shooting and forced four turnovers to expand a seven-point lead. Loyola made their first three-pointer of the contest before the quarter expired to shrink their deficit to four.

A dominant second quarter would set the tone for the remainder of the game, as the Battlin' Bears would outscore Loyola 21-4, forcing nine turnovers and shooting just under 50% from the field to expand a lead out to 21 points at the halftime break.

After only one shot attempt in the first half, Sydney Dethman took over the game in the third quarter, scoring 12 points on five-of-seven shooting from the field while also adding two offensive rebounds and two assists, helping further the Battlin' Bear lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Battlin' Bears did not let up despite the sizable lead, hitting four three pointers in the fourth quarter to put away the Wolfpack, winning 67-38.

Notable Statistics

Sydney Dethman tallied a game-high 18 points, all of which were scored in the second half while adding six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
